Quirónsalud services on the Balearic Islands

Quirónsalud on the Balearic Islands offers a complete portfolio of healthcare services, with the highest standards of excellence in medical care.

9 medical centres distributed in strategic locations on the island of Mallorca and referenced to the 2 large private hospitals on the island: : Clínica Rotger y Hospital Quirónsalud Palmaplanas.

All the centres are connected to each other by a fleet of ambulances prepared for emergency transport assistance, scheduled transport and coverage of all kinds of events.

Quirónsalud also offers a network of dental clinics: Quirónsalud Dental, with 3 centres in Palma, a centre integrated in the hospital and one for paediatric patients, as well as Quirónsalud Dental centres in Inca and Manacor.

A new Quirónsalud Palmaplanas Ophthalmology Institute has recently been opened, equipped with the most advanced technology currently available on the Balearic Islands.

Quirónsalud

3 Tesla MRI with artificial intelligence at Quirónsalud Palmaplanas Hospital.

The tunnel is 10 cm wider than previous models to improve patient comfort. Technologically, the machine is equipped with Deep Learning – Artificial Intelligence to obtain images of the highest quality and highest precision in diagnosis. It is the first 3 Tesla equipment in the private healthcare sector in the Balearic Islands.

More comfort for the patient

A 10 cm larger circumference than previous models, a wider and more comfortable bench that is closer to the floor to make it easier for the patient to get on and off, and a noise reduction system. All these elements, aimed at improving the patient’s experience during the examination, are complemented by a new system of signal receiving antennas. This design achieves better image quality and patient comfort compared to conventional antenna technologies.

System with non-rigid coils

The antennas are not only very light, but also mouldable to fit the patient’s anatomy. They can be rolled up on themselves and are able to cover any area of the body regardless of its size or shape, with no rigid areas or pressure points, making them as comfortable as a small blanket. The special feature is that they have a device inside them to capture higher quality signals from the internal tissues. This allows for more reliable images with higher diagnostic accuracy and more comfort for the patient.

Higher image quality, better diagnostic accuracy

3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging uses a higher magnetic field intensity to achieve higher image resolution, resulting in better differentiation of tissues, better visualisation of small anatomical structures and higher sensitivity in detecting certain pathologies.

Greater possibilities in diagnostic studies

Among the advances in image quality, clarity and precision offered by the new MRI is the ability to correct movement and allow patients to breathe freely. In addition, the new technology allows specialists at Quirónsalud Palmaplanas Hospital to perform more in-depth examinations of the brain, for example in cases of multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease; vascular examinations of the central nervous system and examinations of the peripheral arteries; cardiology examinations, such as cardio-maps; abdominal examinations, as well as oncology examinations of the breast and prostate; and even examinations of musculoskeletal injuries with more precise images, which is highly sought after by top athletes. It is also supported by a groundbreaking artificial intelligence system that automatically identifies anatomical structures and increases diagnostic confidence in a growing number of pathologies. Finally, the new machine requires 50% less power than other MRI machines, resulting in significant energy savings.

Clínica Rotger incorporates the Da Vinci Xi robot to its new High Complexity Surgical Unit

Clínica Rotger incorporates the most advanced version of the Da Vinci Xi Robot into its operating theatres, with 3D technology and articulated arms with 360º rotation, making it the first precision robotic surgery equipment in private healthcare on the Balearic Islands.

All this thanks to the 3D vision technology it incorporates, and a system of articulated arms that extends the range of action of the surgeon’s hands, allowing 360-degree rotations.  For the patient, the application of minimally invasive robotic surgery techniques means smaller incisions, less bleeding, lower rates of infection or other complications, less postoperative pain and faster recovery.

In addition, the field of action of robotic surgery is becoming wider and wider and, although it was initially used in the field of Urology for the treatment of prostate cancer and other urological tumours, scientific evidence has now allowed its use to be extended to other specialties such as Gynaecology, General Surgery or Head and Neck Surgery.

This is possible thanks to the fact that the Da Vinci surgical robot provides greater access to complicated anatomical areas, with greater precision and a better range of movement, significantly reducing post-surgical complications. In this way, it is possible to increase the complexity of surgeries and perform more radical interventions such as tumour resection. In other cases, it also makes it possible to shorten surgery and reduce anaesthesia time.

Heart Attack Code and Stroke Code

Clínica Rotger and Hospital Quirónsalud Palmaplanas are pioneers in the introduction of the Heart Attack Code and Stroke Code in private healthcare on the Balearic Islands. Since 2018, both the Stroke Code and the Heart Attack Code have been activated more than 400 times in Quirónsalud group hospitals.

During this time, protocols have been adapted to attend to such patients as quickly as possible, significantly reducing care times and achieving excellent results in patient recovery.

Arrhythmia Unit

The Arrhythmia Unit of Clínica Rotger and Hospital Quirónsalud Palmaplanas led by Dr. Josep Brugada has completed more than 400 Cardiac Electrophysiology procedures in 2021.

“Physiological pacing reduces mortality by up to 21% and has a success rate of over 95% in patients requiring a pacemaker”..

The Unit has experienced an enormous growth in patients and procedures over the last few years, currently performing around 400 procedures a year between Hospital Quirónsalud Palmaplanas and Clínica Rotger. In many cases, these are related to the most advanced ablation techniques, cryo and carto ablation.
